I have started a vote to collect information from people who have built a pixel matrix, so that other who have not, can get some advice. It would be nice if people could submit running daylight photo (if possible) of their matrix and indicate how many pixels per meter vertical and horizontally. And the number of pixels rows x columns

Thanks Heaps. :D

Shell, what did you use to sequence the concentric circles in your video. I'm having trouble doing circles on my matrix. Thanks.

This is a very open question as the resolution of any matrix is mainly determined by the viewing distance but it also goes down to personal likes and the resolution you are looking for. So I don't think there is a right or wrong answer and im sure you will get many varying points of view.

I have used a 16 x 12 matrix with 10 pixels per metre with great success because ive been able to manage those channels and create my own custom animations. The tree is a 12 x 50 pixel resolution and the mini matric above the arch is a 5 x 10 matrix

Each matrix is individual to the users needs and situation. A high density matrix is a nice to have but it does come with the fact that there are a lot more channels and power to mange compared to a lower resolution matrix and in the end what are the advantages and disadvantages for your needs and location because the general public will be wowed by either a high res or low res matrix either way

Here is a video of my display and I use mostly 10 pixels 30 LEDs per metre 12vdc strip and the tiles on the house are actually dumb RGB modules and strip so even less use of pixels

The matrix is 80x50 5v 2811 pixel strip. Corflute measures 2.7m x 1.75m Spacing is about 1cm between strips.

Used Nutcracker to do all the sequencing on it

Use a Pixlite16 to drive it and 4 power supplies.

Pattern is up/down, power injection in the start of first strip, end of 2nd strip etc.

I have 12 LOR CCR's spread about 4 inches apart. The Matrix is viewed nicely from the road at about 20 to 30 feet

I'm using 5v ws2812b strip 30 led/mtr. 20 rows x 75 pixel (2.5 mtrs). I have the strip spaced approx. 3cm apart and it looks great from the front yard or out in the street.

Last year my 1200px matrix was horizontal.

This year of course 4000px is vertical.

I prefer the vertical now as the power injection cables just come from the bottoms of the strips to power supplies. With horizontal the power inj cables had to run down the side of the matrix right down to the power supplies.

So all our strips are mounted to coroflute? How do you mount that and do you have any kind of frame to support it?

I mount it with dots of silicon randomly along the strip then drill holes and put zipties at the top, bottom & middle to secure it.

The sides of the matrix have 1"x4" MDF screwed down the sides to support the sides and the middle of the corflute is partially cut in half lengthwise for storage purposes so that also has MDF screwed onto the back.

We generally get a south-westerly wind where we are and my house faces north so the matrix is protected majority of the time.

The whole matrix is bolted to the house on the 4 corners.

She'll how do you go about managing all that power injection? How often and is all the pixels sharing one output?

Thanks

Heres some pics :)

The white cables are the data & ground. The speaker (pinky) cable is all the power injection.

Here it is folded in half for storage with all the cabling :)
