Hi guys,

This year will be my first year with blinkies and music, I've been wondering what people have been using for outdoor music?
Do people have a waterproof speakers? Or do you just use an FM transmitter?
I'm not sure which way to go...or if I should have both?

Thanks
V

I ran for about 6 years with speakers only before changing to speakers and radio transmitter. The 1st year I only had 2 small 'tune to" sign. The 2nd year of radio transmitting I changed to a large tune to sign. It was surprising how many people said about the lights being done to music. My speakers were pretty bloody loud as I don't have neighbour issues and it still wasn't getting through to a majority of people who were driving around with windows up, aircons on and their own choice of music on. If you're doing your lights to music there needs to be clear signage to show that there is music.

I had a radio with line out from Pi to line in on radio. For NYE I connected a Sonos Play 5 - definite improvement on the radio I used. But I am not going to leave that out 24/7 this year.

I have both. My outdoor speaker runs from the old stereo in my garage, which is tuned into the FM transmitter. Best of both worlds!

I have FPP output into an FM transmitter. I also have an old Car stereo in the garage and run long speaker cables to a couple of cheap outdoor speakers that I hide in the hedge. That way if I'm out the front I will also know if the FM transmitter stops working.

First year I had speakers only and cable running all over the place.
I am on acreage and this year I used a transmitter and radio's and receiver located throughout the property to create a more immersive sound without the trip hazzard of cables over walk areas. - Worked well
99 % of my visitors walk in to the property so I don't advertise my fm transmission

Is there an easy source for these transmitters?
Fleabay or Allied Express?

I'm probably going to get a smack from the ACL vendors for not checking their stores....

NB: seem to be plenty of PCB radio transmitters on ebay..

Thank you Ben,
appreciate the info! we've spent $1200 easily already and haven't bought any lights yet :p ... so feeling a little foolish...

I've seen others budget $2k as a start so we're still under that! :) May have to go for a more budget version for now, tho.

Is 2K the real budget of the Budget you just tell the misses?
looook .... I'm the Tight-HoHoHo so its the budget until I say otherwise!

I keep saying, my wife is the Great Equaliser! I used to have money, now I have her and she's much much more expensive than anything I've had before her!

Fm transmitter from ebay (china), about 500 m range on low, very clear, transmitter is in back of house with show computer
Have small old Boom box stereo, place out in front yard, tune
that into my fm signal and adjust volume if people out of cars listening ,
(normally outside ourselves collecting for charity and handing out candy canes- turn stereo up & down as needed)

I like the look (and the price) of the amp.
I need something like this for an idea I have for greeting visitors and it looks like this little amp will do exactly what I want.
Thanks for the suggestion Ben
