    mini 3ch RGB controllers

I have several of those mini-controllers you mention and their rated power dissipation of 144 watts is not quite achievable; they run very warm, almost hot, when running a single RGB strip 16 feet long. And that's only about 3-4 amps total load. They could probably run at 3 amps per channel but...

    WS2801 Vs WS2811

And for driving even more 5050 chips, there's a 24 volt version: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/non-waterproof-DC24V-WS2811-pixel-module-with-12pcs-5050-RGB-SMD-LED-85mm-diameter-pcb-20pcs/701799_701852699.html

    WS2801 Vs WS2811

And for those interested, thespec sheet for the WS2812, which is a combination of the WS2811 circuit and a 5050 LED. Used for high density pixel displays.

    Jumping into pixels in 2013

I'm interested in the same thing; the ability to control pixels or a GECE with DMX. Cannot do e1.31, but needs to interface with existing theatre dmx systems. Maybe the uDCG-P2?
