It's 10M of bullet LEDs, a Pi Zero W and a USB powerbank. The lights are just safety pinned in at the moment whilst I fiddle with things to get it right. I was going to go with strips but figured that bullets would be less likely to get damaged with twisting/flexing. I haven't performed a full battery test but it seems to get about 1-2 hours with the lights on and around 6-7 hours 'standby' (with just the Pi Zero wifi turned on).

Currently trying to think of a way to get a cable from the Pi up to a hat cleanly. I need to figure out a way that's unobtrusive and easy to take on/off.

To be honest, it works better hung up on a coathangar as the lights are far enough away from the fabric to diffuse properly, when it's being worn the lights press up against it and the LEDs are more obvious.

Still pretty happy with the experiment so far, the Zero is running FPP so I can sync it up with my main display which should be fun.

The musical group i joined are going to perform Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat next year. Your video caught my attention :) I'd like to build such a coat, only bigger ;)

Last year i made a dress for "ghost present" of "the Christmas Carol" In this video it is roughly modeled in vixen. I can't find a better video yet.

Like I said, I'd be very nervous about using RGB strips as the constant flexing as you move around has a tendency to break the solder and lift the components.

Also the modelling can get a bit tedious, as you are mapping a 3D object onto a 2D space (at least I was):
