I have 5 rare earth magnets over a 4 metres and they are stored on the patio on the side of a steal beam no problems. You can always add a couple more. One big thing I found with those magnets is do not do them up really tight as the break very easily.
Awesome, thanks. I'll probably do what Shane G did for the round stuff and stuck and magnets on the square stuff direct. I just ordered 50 so that should sort me out for this year. :)

Hey guys, Just a thought... have been listening to the professional tryers podcast.. one of the guests had their entore display on their roof and was discussing securing props.. he used "sandbags" on the legs to secure them.. why couldnt you have a "leg" at 90 degrees to the string and just use a sandbag to hold it in place?? Really no wind to take into account on an outline??

Copies the idea above and ordered some 20x10x5 magnets. 3D printed frame for them, and shrink wrapped with 32mm shrink wrap, screwed to clip and done.

Has a good deal of grip so going to give it a go for the roof and gutter.

I found these on Thingyverse the other day:

Obviously only 1 magnet per clip, but you can print the whole clip, so just print more :D

I've just bought myself some PETG filament to test with and was going to give it a go and post the results.

I thought about doing the whole clip like that and magnet in one, but prefer the cover for the magnet so it doesn't scratch the paint on my gutter and colourbond roof when moving around into position etc. My magnets don't have a screw hole either. I just designed my mount myself, took about 10 mins, and printed in PETG 0.3mm in 23mins.:thumbsup: The clips are cheap as chips from bunnings from memory, or I can make them separate.

Also just be sure your printing the right size, he's talking inches on that link which might cause you issues, because you can't just scale it up. ;)

I like it Dreamin.. I'm now thinking that i need to add a 3d printer to my list of things to buy.. lol

one question that I've been considering when looking at mounting on my gutters/facias/eves is how do you guys deal with downpipes?? Do you stop and start either side of the downpipe or run underneath/over the top??

I'm lucky I don't have any downpipes in the way of a run. so can't help you there. Only my garage is visible from the road.

I cabletie my conduit (which is holding the chormatrim) using the overflow slots in the front facing side of guttering. The downpipes are located on the bottom so they are not in the way.

ok that makes sense DJ, your right up on the far outer edge of your gutter.. I think that's going to be my solution as well. I have at least 4 maybe 5 (can't remember without going outside) that are in the way of my gutter outlines.. I have another one right on the front pillar which I will have to deal with in the future when I go to a matrix panel on the pillar..

Sorry to dig up an old post but this is a great idea. Would you happen to have an STL i could use?
Yeah sure mate
There are two bases, v1 is flat, v2 has a fillet for a screwhead. I originally screwed mine from the top down but found on some is hasn't gripped too well. Probably best to try V2 and screw up from the bottom? I also printed my own clips as typically Bunnings had no stock them conduit clips.

I used metal gyprock battens, drill holes to your proffered density. cut them to manageable lengths, use plastic hooks to hang lengths off gutters . easy to setup and store, gives straight lines no sagging. i have lengths of laserlight sheeting over it to create diffuser
