I absolutely love your Merry Christmas sign. So much so that I am going to attempt it for my 2012 show.
The biggest question I have is
"how did you join the coro at the corners of the letters to make it look so clean"?

The joining of the 50mm sides to the top of the letters is gorgeous.

Mike.

Hot glue is perfect for doing this and working with coro as it sets quick enough to get the shape you want. One thing i did find with hot glue though is that it turns yellow with the sun, so i use a touch of hot glue to set into position and then use silicone to finish the rest.

I think mark is using hot glue as well for his sign

That is great feedback, but I am also curious about the corners.

In other words, when you look at the pictures, the front of the letters join up to the sides almost perfectly and you don't see any of the flutes.

Did you cut the edges at a 45 degree and join them?

Thanks for the help and clarification.

Mike.

I did end up paying a little more attention on the corners. I routed a straight 5mm section off the end of the strip which made it butt up against the lettering outline much easier and tidier.

I used a hot glue gun for the letter assembly and the routed section certainly helped the 50mm strip stick to the lettering outline. I agree with Eddy when securing the letters to the backing a couple of letters did slightly come off the backing which I will silicon next year.

I hope this is of some help, good to know you guys caught my attention to detail :)

I love the idea of routing the edge. That seems to be an easier method than using 45's on the corners. The finished product looks incredible.

I also would like to know what bit you used? Did you just set it and run it thru a router table?

Anything you can provide will certainly help me make less mistakes :)

Also, let me make sure I understand!

You Hot glued the sides to the letter fronts.

You Siliconed the letters to the backing to make them removable for repair.

I just thought of another question:

Did you use a stencil for the letters, or project them onto a piece of coro, or print out big letters on pieces of paper, or some other magical way.

Please disclose all your secrets.

Thanks for posting the how to. Gives me plenty of ideas to try.

How did the cable tie bases hold up siliconed to the roof?

Wow how time flies. I had intended to try to make this for my 2012 show and low and behold, I ran out of time that year and the 2013 season!

Well, I am now working on the 2014 season, I have my letters cut out, and am getting ready to hotglue the sides to the fronts using the "Non-Yellowing" hot glue from Holiday Coro.

My next question is this. Do you have an approximation of how you put pixels or how many pixels you put in each letter? Ex. I am sure an "M" uses more than the "I".

I like the way your letters are full of color in the video and want to make sure I have good coverage without too many RGB nodes.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

MIke.

Hi Mike,

I basically used as many as I could fit for each letter and you are correct "M" uses many more than "I". I did draw it so I knew how many modules I'd need to order.

I still need to pack the sign away for this season and can take some photos if you like of what I did but you basically can't get corro too bright so the more the merrier (as long as the modules are far enough away from the face and edges of the corro to diffuse properly) :)

Hope this helps?

Picture of the sign with the corro letters taken off. Looks like I didn't end up needing as many modules as I planned.

Either way, the sign lights up well at night, again I hope this of some help?

Thanks!

This helps alot!

I made a few mods to the design. My letters are a little taller. I cut two letters, one smaller for a backing and form on the black backing for strength, a guide, and maybe block some light out. Might be overkill!

I am currently glueing the sides on my top letters and next step is putting on my pixels.

Since this is my first project with coro or pixels, i figured it was easier to ask now and avoid simple mistakes, then redo later!

Thank you for all the help!

Mike

Is there anyway you can repost the pictures that are no longer visable in the earlier posts??
Hi Dave, I think I fixed all the links in the first post, let me know if there still don't appear for you.
