Where do you store it?

Hi everyone,
I was asked " where do you store it?" by one of my visitors. I replied " I don't know - I haven't stored it yet"


So with that in mind, has anyone got any storage tips and tricks or do's and don'ts for packing away their blinky?


Roll it up or keep it straight? Dismantle or keep it whole?

all my stuff can be flat packed but my mega tree strings will be hung up from the roof

1 of my tips is to label everything. Extension leads I mark at the end with 5m, 10m or whatever. Pixels/pixel strips should be marked as 2801/2811/2812/Ink1003 or whatever and also what voltage they are. Also before you tear it down mark any bad sections that need fixing on the last night that you have things powered up.

AhA yes another frequently asked question by visitors . Forgot about how many times am asked . Strings of leds get rolled up neatly either use old wire rolls or pieces of cardboard to roll onto and packed into plastic storage containers if we have transformers for them they are numbered accordingly. Mega tree frame flatpacks and goes behind the shed. It pays to number everything and keep a record of where it goes. This year for the pixel strips and dumb strips on straight edges am going to put 3 or 4 angle brackets high up on the carport wall to rest them on but basically use plenty storage containers label if necessary and have found over the years definetly label and number things keep record of what goes where either a book written in or a file on the computer will save you lots of time and prevents plugging wrong things in and causing white smoke. Thats what we do anyways everyone does different . Great question mate goodluck

Hoping to get a shipping container in to store it all this year! not enough room in the shed

I knocked a frame up to fill the gap between the shed & fence. So now that's a bit more protected from the sun / rain.

I have a lot to build for 2016, but thinking of keeping everything within virtual meter by meter frame and 5-10 cm deep, so I can just stand them up and rest them against a wall.


I was going to ask the same question? How to store this stuff. I had some nodes to widening up, ended up using some cardboard 8cm wide by about 40cm long, with a some flat metal inside to keep it from bending, the metal just happen to have a small hook at one end to keep the first node from under widening while turned it around to collect the other nodes.

When we got my mancave built (8x4m brick veneer "garage") we got a manhole put in the ceiling and so I've just laid down some ply panels and can now just slide up my lengths of strip on conduit up there, as well as some boxes/crates with lids for cables etc. The more precious stuff like controller boxes and P10 panel sign I have just on shelving inside the mancave, away from the heat of the roof.

For my conduit pieces with pixels zip-tied to it I bought cheap ladder hanging brackets and bolted them into the wood studs in the wall above my tool box, then I just place them up there with my ladder, out of the way during the offseason and no chance of getting banged around

Heres how I store my tree strands. the window frames now reside on brackets mounted to the garage ceiling
as do my arches and VU poles. The tree frame lives in the back shed, controllers and cables live in Plastic tubs in the garage cupboards

Still in purchase mode but storage in off season has been on top of my list

I just purchased second hand 65 sheets of 1.8m colourbond to build a "lean to " on the side of my shed

My aim is to have a rack system to store my pixel matrix, conduit mounted rgb strips also on rack and storage tote boxes for extension leads control panals and any other equipment I may have

This way I keep all display items in its own dedicated area and not take over my garage space or work shop

I'll be storing it all in my brothers shed ..... until we sell and get a new place.
