I use a mix of cheap dishwashing liquid and Glycerine.
If you use the cheap dishwashing liquid you do need to add a little more.
The Glycerine helps the bubbles to keep there shape for longer.
Also if you let the mixture rest, it works better in the machine.

I bought lots of bottles of glycerine/glycerol for that purpose (as well as for my smoke machines) ... until I realised that $1/L bottles of pre-made bubble stuff from the cheapie shops are really good value ... I bought a fair few ... and they have lasted about 4 yrs ... and I still have a fair few left :D

I went to the maker faire on Sunday and they were doing bubble demonstrations with the kids. They were making bubbles that were over a meter across! I was worried a small child would get trapped inside the bubble they were so big. lol
I asked about their recipe and they said it used guava gum or something like that with detergent. (not glycerine) I have no idea how well it would work in a machine or what the outcome may be.
