Wowsers thats expensive!
I get my dual twin 4mm2 solar cable for $185 per 100m
I can probably get that hpm stuff aswell.. Will look into it monday!

Videoman, wat type of cable do you want/need? SPT1 seems to be a mostly american type of cable...

Cheers.

The cables mentioned above are designed for permanent installations, is this what you need the cable for?
For Christmas lighting installations, I like probably many others use figure 8 cables, I use them in a variety of sizes from 14/0.20 to 50/0.25 (2.5mm2) some people use extension lead cables too.
Although I am always adding more, many of my cables have been used for up to 10 or more seasons without any degradation.

I just keep an eye out on gumtree and the like. Quite often people have the stuff stored up (ex electricians etc) and then flog it off cheap.
What you need to remember is Bunnings will try and sell it for as much as possible, so are not always cheaper. If you go to an electrical outlet like Auslec they will give you retail price, but if you know someone in the trade, they will get it a whole lot cheaper, sometimes up to 50% off retail.
I bought a lot of mine in bulk, from gumtree and when Masters closed down. Prior to that I just scoured the internet including ebay.
Just do your homework as the prices are massively different.

Roosta,
I am looking at figure 8 cable. I used the term SPT1 cause I thought that was what term was used.
I am looking for black case to keep the visability down and for the UV rating for sitting in the Queensland Summer sun.
I am making extension cables varying from 10 to 30 mtrs. All I am driving is 27 volt string LEDs for Singing Christmas trees and Single coloured light balls.
So there is no high amp draw - just voltage drop over distance. I figured 2.5 to 3.3 mm2 should be heaps and would allow for and changes to the power load over the years.
I like the sound of the 4mm2 . That's pretty close to future proofing.

Just got 100 mtrs x 4mm2 solar cable. Last roll reduced for quick sale @ $99 plus $ 14 freight off eBay from a seller in Regents park, Qld.
Then I got an alert from Ebay about another sale item 30mtrs of the same size cable for $ 89.99 - different manufacturer

Pays to shop around.

Nice score..

For those interested, I am currently negotiating some bulk buy prices from a reputable cable supplier on twin 1.3mm2, 2.5mm2, 4mm2, 6mm2, 10mm2 garden grade cable..

Once I secure the pricings and MOQ I will put up a thread..

Freight may be the only killer, however I may have a way round that..

Cheers,
Nik
