Every time I work on a prop or wiring, I always marvel at the invention of the cable tie or zip tie or Ty-Rap (the original name) or whatever your favorite name for it is. I think to myself, "What a great invention! I wonder who came up with this?". Well, today my question was answered in an article in the New York Times Magazine that my wife alertly noted, coincidentally at the very moment I was zip-tieing some Chroma strips to electrical conduit. "...invented in 1958 by Maurus C. Logan, an engineer at the Thomas & Betts electrical company, to corral the thousands of feet of electrical wiring inside airplanes. He got the idea while touring a Boeing aircraft manufacturing facility and seeing the calloused fingers of the operators whose job it was to tie the wire in bunches with nylon cord."
