Hah. I am about to buy some Ali FB for our display after TonyF put me onto it... Seem like it can be very versatile and used in almost all models... and, because I can't weld to save my life (aka Johnston Lights) I have to find other solutions!

I'll be looking for your spinners in your media ... we want to make use of them on our front fence.

I hear you on the welding - my skills are buckley's and none.
All I have used is nuts and bolts at all the joins.

As you can see on the front image, I have cut the ali a good 20mm longer then the strip.

For my spinner (which is in the video) it is just off cuts from the mega tree, with, you guessed it, nuts and bolts in the centre.

Im lucky that my spinner lays down, but on a fence you may need to look at ways to support the arms so they don't sag/bend.

Awesome thank you for those pix.

Originally I looked at pop-rivits but they won’t be any good as hinges! Hey eventually shear off! Nuts and bolts are the only way, but I’d be going for ‘nylon-lock’ nuts, coz I’m weird like that.

Do you take the pixels off or split the fan up for pack-up?

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls. After a successful 2017 where the show attracted on average 4 visitors a week, and countless bats, I wish to advise that 2018 and 2019 looks like being put on hold. The reason - with attendances like that I can only go backwards
Honestly though - QldKing and family are about to relocate to Darwin for 2 years for the wife's work. As much as I would like to, I don't really see the point in relocating the display 3500 k. And also we are looking at renting an apartment so bit hard to put out a 3m mega tree 7 levels up :)

Does anyone have any tips on storing for 2 years please let me know. Should my boards etc be OK for that length of time? Don't really feel like coming back in 2019 and starting all over again.

Oh and if anyone has any work in Darwin let me know. At this stage looks like I am going to be Mr Mom xD

QldKing signing out - DarKing signing in

There shouldn't be any issues storing boards, lights etc, as long as it doesn't get overly hot or humid where they are stored.
I would consider capping/sealing all electrical and physical inputs/outputs to stop ingress of moisture and/or pests. Alternatively store everything in plastic storage containers in your storage facility. Another alternative is to use cling film around connectors and any open entry points in enclosures.

Disclaimer: Condensation may be an issue, you'll need guidance from an expert, not me, regarding this issue.

PS: Hopefully you'll take some lights with you to get in the festive blinky spirit in December.
