Hey guys and girls,
My name is Sean and have been into Christmas lighting for the past few years. Been doing the standard display type things just using the integrated light flasher units. But I was given a brand new Light O'Rama set up with all the extras and included song CD. It's a bit dated but brand new 2x 16 channel control boxes. Not sure if I want to get that involved or not. Lol. If not what would a system like this be worth to sell? I'm sure someone here would be pretty keen on it if I decide against using it due to time mainly.

Hi Sean, You are correct, they are very dated and you may be able to sell them on Gumtree and possibly get $100 ea for the boxes from someone who thinks LOR is the only option for this hobby. They still have a basic use in displays if you want to hook up some 240v spot lights or rope lights to them but it is pretty difficult to source proper Christmas lights that will work with them now.

Hi Sean, Welcome to ACL. I myself started with LOR and still own 5 main controllers and 3 dc controllers.. However once you get a taste for RGB Pixels you will soon learn that LOR is very limiting and will find yourself moving on.. If you have any questions there are plenty of people willing to help.

Welcome to ACL Sean.
You're certainly at the right place. Ask no questions and you'll fumble around. Ask away. Everyone here is here to help and learn.
It costs nothing to ask and you'll get some help from some well seasoned blinky masters.

I am a LOR user and I can tell you now that you can not control the modern Woolies, Kmart, Bunnings type Christmas lights with the built in flashing sequencer with the 204 volt controllers. You'll burn them and your LOR controllers out. You will also find there is a delay between applying power and the lights turning on due to the lights built in controller..
Basically All you can do is turn them on or off - No sequences, no twinkle, no sparkle, nothing really. Just on or off. 240 volt lights are from an age gone by.
The LOR DC controllers are usable on different lights, but unless you have some of the old Christmas lights in your stash that have three wires coming out of that little blinky control box, they too will not operate correctly from the LOR DC controller or any other basic DC controller. Even though you have the two wires connected, only half of the lights will illuminate and the other will be off - this is due to the way the electronics works in the little control box for the lights.
AHH makes a controller that will control the newer 2 wire lights is you want to use your existing lights.

I use a LOR DC Boards for my display and a LOR 240 volt controller to control Arches down my driveway. They are old 240 v -36 volt Rope lights that twinkle and will be replaced when they eventually die.
I am making a stand alone display (away from my main display) that uses the DCmp3 (mine is a newer DCMP3G3) that controlls a dc controller and the 240 V ac controller. The 240 volt unit controlls the arches - one arch Blue and the next White and these alternate down my driveway. When someone breaks a proximity beam 16 of the arches turn off and a talking face is activated via the dc controller. When the face has finished doing its sequence, the arches turn on sequentially and remain on until the proximity sensor is activated again. As the lights are not sequenced to music, the time delay on the Rope light controllers is of no significance to the display.

A lot of people go full smart pixel display (each led can be programmed a different colour) - I don't - it doesn't take my fancy - it looks like LasVagas
I am either stranded one colour lights, or stranded Dumb RGB which can be different colours, but its the whole string is the whatever colour you mix .
Having said that, I hope to have a pixel tree this year and use it as the main feature.

Anyway Sean, welcome, ask questions and have fun
