Hi all, just a quick update on the MTM Ammo Crates

Background: I originally ordered 4 x MTM Ammo Crate LARGE ACR8-72 from Brownnells (at their original price at the start of 2018 which was approx. $30 each)
https://www.brownells.com.au/index....roduct_id=38561&search=ammo+crate&manu_id=933

They did arrive in 2-3 weeks as they didn't have any on stock in Aus and had to be delivered from USA which was good for no additional shipping charges etc.
When the boxes arrived they where only covered in a thin corrugated carboard and some packaging tape and looked like they had had rough journey.
I removed the packaging and found two of the boxes where damaged (lid was twisted and wouldn't shut properly).
No worries as I actually had taken the shipping insurance option during the check out process at Brownells (it was only $1.75 or something like that).
I then went "old school" and rang the staff at Brownells and they were great, did need photo's etc and was happy to send two replacements and said you might as well keep the damaged ones as they would cost to much to ship back etc.
Then a couple of weeks later another 2 boxes arrived, this time packaged a bit better with a covering of thin foam packaging material and a outer covering of think plastic.
So all good I was happy.

I was after 2 x more of the ammo crates for my build (using them for 2 x Falcon differential receiver boards and 2 x PSU).
After seeing the price rise from Brownells I noticed someone had put a link to the boxes on sale from Gun Emporium
https://www.gunemporium.com.au/product/mtm-ammo-crate-utility-box-large/
They also had a flat $12 shipping charge (which I think is cheap).
The boxes arrived today is a nice sturdy carboard box, but it looked a bit small for 4 x ammo crates.
Here is a pic of the packaging when it arrived. I thought at first there was only two ammo crates (pic shown with another ammo crate for comparison)

After opening the packaging box, it dwelled on me.
They sent the boxes with lids detached, and base of the boxes neatly stacked inside each other, also the outer packaging box had MTM's logo on it and I assume this is how MTM ships the boxes to their retailers.

Attaching the lids is nice and easy

So just a bit of information for anybody looking at these ammo crates to use for controller boxes, I think they are great, good quality and I tested one before I did my controller box build and found it to be nice and water tight.

I am not recommending one retailer over another as both supplied the products as described within great time frames and Brownells did replace the damaged ones quickly with no fuss, all ok.

I did prefer however the shipping method of Gun Emporium, and at the moment they are on sale.

Anyway just thought I would pass on my experience of purchasing the ammo crates.

So what does everyone use as a base for their controller boxes to mount everything to? I've been considering using wood, will that work?
