The new audio band filter for the waveform is brilliant. It might be a bit slower but the performance is excellent. The bass shows up things like kick drum beautifully. The custom filter allows you to pick out a bandwidth if you just want to see the waveform for voices for instance.
Among men, the broad categories for voices are bass (about E2-F4), baritone (about G2-Ab4), and tenor (about Bb2-C5).
Among women, the categories are alto (about F3-A5) and soprano (about A3-C6), with mezzo-soprano in between.
The filters are selected by right clicking on the waveform.
The custom filter setting that you've selected now keeps the previous value that you set which is handy if you're trying to tweak exactly to filter instruments in or out.

Thanks Dan, Keith and Gil for the continued development.

Great tips @AAH

I found a handy chart that converts ABCDEF to Hertz (Hz) and Midi numbers (see attached).

Note that the Custom filtered waveform, as it says in its dialog box, is using the midi note numbers. The ABCDEF and Hz are shown alongside. This chart may make it easier for users to enter required settings.

Also found a site that has some more detailed information on audio frequencies that may be useful if you are trying to filter specific instruments or vocals. http://www.zytrax.com/tech/audio/audio.html
