Hi DW, Firstly I would download the 101 manual and have a browse. Most people on here buy there lights from China

All the lights ive seen in stores this year look crappie. The last sets of lights we purchased from big w last year was two sets of 600 leds left outside for max 2 months . Didnt work this year already in the bin very disappointed as they weren't that cheap either. we are converting to pixels been buying throughout the year although more expensive but quality seems much better have had a few dumb rgb sets for 3 yrs now still working great. You can buy cheap controllers off ebay to run strips .
