this is my first year using both LOR AC controllers and e1.31 with rgb. My question is do i have to use a USB dongle connected to the computer and a network cable connected at the same time to send both protocols or is there something else i should do.

What sort of e1.31 controller are you using. I used the j1sys p12s with connects via Ethernet. This controller has 2 outputs for DMX (with the aid of a cross over cable) LOR controllers can run DMX
I be leave the D4 is a stand alone e1.31 to dmx controller as well.
This way you only need 1 Ethernet connected to the computer running to a network hub then all your e1.31 controllers come off the hub.

You have 2 choices here

1: Use 2 separate networks, one for your LOR controllers using the LOR USB dongle and the E1.31 network connected to your Ethernet.

2. Just use E1.31 and then use the DMX out from the pixel controller (most now support this, but check yours does) and run the LOR controllers in DMX mode. (this is the way I do it)
