Might as well dream big right!!

Starting this as a build thread for next years display. I'll have lots of questions along the way!

I don't expect to get all of this for 2018 but will do as many elements as budget and time allows.

I'd like to start with the house/window outlines and the Matrix.

So far on order is the Falcon F16V3, other than that I'll be starting from scratch.

Any advice, assistance along the way is greatly appreciated.

    As always, feedback is welcome.

    Cheers! Dan

Welcome and no way are you out of your mind xD
I would start by ordering some pixels, and power supplies, then download a software package to have a play.
This way you can wire it up in your cave and muck around to see how it all works.
My first sequence was the pixar intro theme and 2 rolls of led strip (still rolled up) And when I got it to work I was like a kid on xmas day :)
I would also start looking around at props. You have a few spiral tree's in your pic. Bunnings had them, but from what I have seen of late are not stocking them any more, this might be seasonal and they may come back for spring, but hunt around, you may find someone has them
for the matrix Boscoyo is your friend, but maybe wait and keep an eye out on the forum as they did a bulk buy earlier in the year and we got an awesome deal on freight, otherwise that can kill you with shipping.
other than that, there are many ways to skin a cat, so read the forum and look at everyones build and think about how you can mount the props on your house which may point you toward the best way to build them.
most of all... Have fun

You are doing well Dan, Just start out small, get that working and move onto the next . A straight outline & a couple of panels is a great start.
Are you out of your mind? Yes. You think this Christmas lighting all year round is normal, you already have the clap :cautious:O_O:bookworm: :)

Have ordered 25 P10 panels, BBB and Octoscroller for my Matrix.
Also 8x 5m Pixel strips for the mini trees.

Do those numbers include spares? If you want a 5x5 matrix, might pay to add 1-3 spares.
Similar with mini trees, if you are using all 5m per tree, maybe add another 5m roll?
    Speaking from experience ;)

I haven't allowed for spares, are you meaning for if one is faulty?
Or if I have a problem with one down the track and need to swap it out?

I've ordered extra ribbon cable and connectors for the matrix so hopefully good there.
With the strips for the mini trees I will just do them myself.
When I do the order for the house outline etc I will get the pigtails done for me :)

Yes, pares for any faults that occur during dec. Also with panels, they usually are produced in batches, and there has been some examples of slight colour variation between batches.

Hopefully I get a good batch of panels, if not I'll hit Ray up for replacements.
I've got plenty of time to accrue spares so all good :)
