Ethernet Question/Issue

My show laptop's LAN NIC has crapped out. I just found this out as I was starting to test some E68x units. I am not happy at the moment, as this is not that old of a computer. My intent this season was to leverage the wireless NIC to communicate with my home network, and then use the LAN to drive E1.31 and my RGB elements. I tested this about a year ago on the same laptop and all seemed to function OK.

I was told that if I wanted to have 2 networks, (and not want to replace the laptop) that I should use an external USB Ethernet Adaptor. Does anyone have any knowledge of using one of these for this purpose? Any suggestions on a particular device? Any advise on set up? Is it just the same modifying IP address as the internal NIC?

the usb ones are quite good now days, once installed it will show up as another ethernet adapter and all you will need to do is set an ip and away you go
