How to do this sparkle effect?

Hi all,

I've only just joined so apologies if this isn't the correct spot for this question.

I've seen this sparkling/twinkling effect in some videos and I'm wondering how it's done. There's a bigger one somewhere (can't find the URL right now), but you can see it at 2:20 at the very end of this show on the pixel tree:

Is this as simple as using an RGBW and flickering the white pixels?

Strobe effect, has been used here on a second layer

Right... but what do you mean by the second layer? A separate string of white strobe LEDs? Are these any different to regular LEDs?

assuming you are using pixels?

Create a second layer on the model in xlights and put strobe on it

I am thinking of doing something similar but haven't purchased the pixels yet, so I was wondering if they're RGBs (and my eyes are telling me it's white); or RGBWs with the white pixels doing a strobe; or some special strobe pixel that I haven't seen before.

and it looks like they're a special strobe pixel.

I haven't used dumb LEDs so can't advise there but regular pixels will give you the effect
