For my tree topper I currently use a P2 controller by Joshua (J1 sys) systems. Because of it's small size, lots of flexability, ability to control 2 strings and also the ability to control MORE than 170 pixels/output, I selected this solution. It costs with shipping about $100.00 US

    Is there a cheaper alternative?
Another controller out there that can do the same thing but at a cheaper cost? --Greg--

There was a spreadsheet floating around on here which compared controllers with cost per pixel. The p2 was from memory the cheapest or it was the second cheapest by the ever so slightly of margins.

    8 universe of 170 pixels for $100 that's 7.35c per pixel.

You can always take a look at the E6804 from Sandevices. 4 outputs and 12 universes in Unicast mode. The built one is $99 and the kit is $69. It's a simple build. With moderate soldering skills, one can be built in about an hour.

    Just another option.
