Hi All

Made a mini tree out of coro, 100 pixels, 10 x 10. Took a couple of weeks, while I worked out and researched the measurements, obtain all the bits and pieces that I need to cut, measure and punch out all the holes.

The crease that can be seen is from when I walked out of bunnings, a gust of wind folded the coro, and I nearly took out the sausage sizzle ladies. Made it to the car a little red faced :-[ . Next time I went, I parked in the timber yard.

I'm happy with the look, though it does look rough in places as I used a Stanley knife to make the cuts. I don't think it will be noticeable of a night.

I was going to put a star on top, but haven't made my mind up yet. Was also thinking of a santa hat...

I've started cutting out the other 9, and have ordered lights from Ray. I'll post again, when I've finished.

They look really great dude. Love the merry christmas sign. I see what you mean about them being bright. Felt like I was getting a fake tan just watching it.

Hi All

Finished all the 10 trees, sorry for the blurred video, the phone just can't keep up with the brightness of the lights.

I've added additional power at tree 3 and 6, but will need to re asses this when I put them out, as you can see 2 and 5 are a little dark, when all trees are on.

Stats
Height 520mm
Width Bottom 300mm
Width Top 80mm
Lights 10 x 10 rows = 100
Coro 2.5mm
Board E682

I'm happy with the outcome, so now will start the sequencing with xlights.

I'm going to say 100 nodes per tree which is 300 channels x 10 trees = 3000 channels

Hi heath, I used a sharp Stanley knife to cut only one side of the corro. I was then able to fold it while still having it maintain integrity. Though if I pushed too hard I ended up with a cut. I did go over each cut a couple of times lightly to be safe.

Superman your correct on the channels

Rudolph, I used 4 outputs, setting the channels at 300, I may change it 2 outputs at 500 if I need the ports for something else. I have also added power injection at the start of every tree, just incase.

Thanks
Shane

10 of them looks even better than the one at the mini.

Hi Patrick

I used the following calculator to work out my dimensions.
http://craig-russell.co.uk/demos/cone_calculator/
I new i wanted them to be about 50cm high, so i played with the calculator to arrive at what i wanted.
Found it was easier to purchase the following from bunnings so I had my Angles correct,
https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-300mm-digital-angle-finder_p5660390
I drew the outline on a large piece of paper to ensure the cone actually worked...
From this and the measurements of the calculator I split the cone in 10 equal sections so I had my areas to cut and drew this onto a piece of coro.
I cut out the outline, then sliced only halfway through each line of the ten sections (9 actually).
Once finished I was able to see the cone shape.
From this, then divided each section (vertically) into sections and marked where the holes would go. Punched these out with a hole punch - I did try and drill them quickly but that turned into a mess and partially melted holes, so I stuck with the hole punch.
Added one string to 100 lights, and used 5 cable ties to hold it together - equally small holes punched out on both the left and right of the cone.

Hope that helps,

Let me know if you need any more details.

Shane
