If the last device on your DMX chain uses a 3 or 5 pin XLR, you can make a terminator by soldering a 120 Ohm 0.25W (or larger) resistor [http://www.jaycar.com.au/productResults.asp?keywords=RR0550&keyform=KEYWORD] between pins 2 & 3 of a male XLR plug. How's that for a simple project!
