Selfie wings were popularised in the 2020's and came about as an opportunity to integrate interactivity into Christmas light displays, specifically by having a purpose-built spot where visitors can stand and take a photo of themselves with the wings behind them. This gives the illusion that the visitor has light up wings.

They can either be sequenced as part of your display or some people choose to go a step further and add in buttons that visitors can interact with to change how the wings look, on demand (colour, pattern, etc).
