xSchedule on MacOS

I'm a 2022 newbie . . . I've been quietly assembling hardware and lurking the web since about March, and it's about time to get everything out and mounted. Just starting out, I'm putting up about 400 bullet pixels on the roof line, and I'm not really looking for any glamorous effects beyond maybe a twinkle or two. I've purchased supplies for future growth, so I have lots of extra pixels, remaining watts on my power supply, and ports on my Falcon controller. That is, I don't want to start over from scratch. Future additions might be snowflakes, window frames, and arches. I'm not seeing any audio or singing trees in my future.

Based on other posts in the forum, I downloaded version 2020.12 and both xLights and xSchedule appeared to at least start up; that is, as Intel apps running via Rosetta on an M1 Mac. What am I missing here? I'm thinking I don't need new bells and whistles, so maybe I can get by with the old version.

Thanks in advance for your advice,

Joe

xSchedule got removed from Mac.
Reasoning at the time was because Apple app store had something about it not being suitable.

Older versions of xLights will work if your hardware/operating system continues to support it.
What you are missing out in newer versions could be anything, like new controller types added, new effects, etc.

I don't know if there is a way on Mac to have two versions of the same program installed. Old version of xSchedule should continue to play fseq files (the playback file) from the latest version of xLights.

Thanks, Mark.

No, you can't have two versions of the same program installed on a Mac.

Looking around the 'net, I found the last version of xSchedule to be bundled with xLights was 2020.12, released March 2020. I also found a later, stand-alone version on the xlights.org download page, 2020-46-1, released November 2020. The first version of xLights to support the Falcon F16v4 (which I need) was 2021.19, June 2021. I'll start with the November 2020 version of xSchedule and the current version of xLights and work backwards until I find something that works.

you really want something other than your main machine running xschedule anyway.

you don't really want to have to leave your laptop set up and connected to your lights & fm transmitter during showtime every night

Your falcon can play a show itself if needed. A couple of us have had issues with that (the SD card going offline requiring a reboot after 30min or so) - but it might be worth a test.

A late follow-up . . . .

While xSchedule may not be actively supported or developed for the Mac, it still works. Or at least it does for me. My gear:

MacMini M1 (2020), macOS 12.6 (Monterey); xLights 2023.15; xSchedule 2020.46 (the last Mac version)

Who knows? Maybe the next macOS version will kill it, but I'll worry about that when the time comes. I'm just grateful that it works now.
