Rest in Peace - Betty Gartner 7 May 1926 to 10 April 2022

Sadly my mother (mum) passed away peacefully on Sunday night. She had six days of palliative care after a fall at the nursing home and a chest infection, she certainly proved the nurses and doctor wrong and passed on her own terms and timing. My sister, one of her sons and I were with her that...

WS2815 Extending Data and Backup Wires

Generally the 4 core was common when we all used 2801 pixels... i personally have lots still... if redundant strings such as 2815 and 8208 get used more we may get them locally at some point.

WS2815 Extending Data and Backup Wires

Personally I don't support or see the need to split/break the positive wire as you end up loosing the benefits of feeding the power in both directions, If your "injecting" via the T's then don't bother to worry about it. Pity you already have the 2815 strip, the GS8208 is the same redundant data...

WS2815 Extending Data and Backup Wires

Just keep in mind UV for permanent style inputs. I would use 4 wire interconnects from one strip to the next and take the opportunity to power inject at the start of each string or after longer breaks like the couple meters you mention... If you subscribe to the cut the positive wires you could...

AU specific - Bunnings Extension leads for DC Power feed

Pardon my very rough whiteboard skills with a mouse, This is the layout that is being discussed and is not about joining two supplies together in the same box. So for extra clarity..... DO NOT DIRECTLY PARALLEL CONNECT SMPS's together. you must use some form of load sharing setup. this can...

Turning on/off ac lights - controller suggestions

Hi Danny, Whilst you mention Dumb lights and LOR AC in the same sentence, there is some key info missing and it's required before any valid advise is given. Are the Dumb lights direct 240v lights (rare these days in AU) Do the dumb lights have there own powers supplies so 240v -> say 24v or...

AU specific - Bunnings Extension leads for DC Power feed

OK i'll address this via testing and i13 i invite you around as a local to help out, but by the time we have 20m + of cable this immediately falls into the completely valid passive current sharing model for power balancing between supplies. Cheers Phil

AU specific - Bunnings Extension leads for DC Power feed

The colour and aesthetics is something i didn't touch on. The public perception may also be a issue as everyone in AU instantly recognises them as an AC 240v extension lead. Personally for any lead that is in public view I would use Solar cable as my own preference... black will disappear better...

AU specific - Bunnings Extension leads for DC Power feed

A question was raised in chat could the seemingly always on special, outdoor extension cords (AC) be used to run 24v around a display before dropping the voltage using DC-DC bricks at different props. Questions raised: Was it feasible? how much voltage drop was there? How many DC-DC bricks...

This is a 2022 update of fasteddy's original 2012 post https://auschristmaslighting.com/threads/12vdc-strings-or-5vdc-strings-what-is-best-to-use.2595/ Updated to reflect 2022 knowledge. 12v or 5v? The question has come up many times in the past, what is better to use for RGB strings, 5VDC or...

Quick update: Tested connecting between the GS8208 strip and a 100 cnt 12v ws2811 bullet pixels. GS8208 and WS2811 both purchased late 2021 so will have >280uS reset timing compatibility. Falcon f16v2 fw 1.09 as the 2811 protocol source. Falcon -> GS8208 -> WS2811 - PASS Falcon -> WS2811 ->...

Challenges in modern speak - besides insurance the one thing that really caught me was the confidentiality clauses, most of it seemed fairly normal.

GS8208 based Pixels - testing and evaluation 2022

Great news Alan. I have found no reference to two different chips. The Normand DS we all seem to be working from is not the best with the wordings in the Electric Characteristics table but based on measurements the IOUT current at VDH12v is measured at 11mA. This would say the normal operating...
