    cat 5 for power injection

So much for me, the 101 does not seem to mention cat 5 but security cable instead which is a little heavier gauge. Cat 5e I have is 24 gauge. Not sure what the rating is but I read somewhere that each wire can handle about 0.5 amps. If I pair up 4 for + and for 4 for -, that would be only 2...

    cat 5 for power injection

Just want to make sure I can take cat 5 cable for power injection. I think I saw that in the 101 tutorial. I'll look for it again but thought I would still ask for advice for cat 5 and other suggestions. my need is for 5 V only maybe 10 - 15 ft away from power source. I assume I can tie 3 wires...

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

Any reason why I could not use regular lamp cord (SPT2) for the 5V power injections?

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

That is awesome, both the design and your responses! I was concerned the additional wires was a sign of poor manufacturing but feel better about the all thing now. I have 3 strings, 2 of 40 pixels each that have 5 wires and 1 of 20 pixels but this one does not have the extra wires for power...

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

The red is on one end it looks like that there might be a + sign above it. The green is in the middle and the black on the other end.

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

So I finally got my 2811 strings from Ray. Very odd though as I got 2 strings of 40. On one end of the strings, I have a red/green/black wire and on the other end I have a red/green/black + another black and red! should not be a big deal as the 2 reds are connected together to the same terminal...

First time pixels! First time sequencing!

Really great looking candy canes! Maybe one day I'll have the time and talent to do something like that... :o How do you keep then up? is there a base so they don't fall (wind, uneven ground...)?

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

interesting. How do you size the fuse? lower rating than the power supply one so it blows first? I saw in another threat someone using SPT1 cable for power supply for the exact same reason (distinguish)... why not!

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

I'll be careful with the color for the wires! I ordered some 3-core connectors but not 2-core ones so I need to find some locally (not worth shipping cost from china I guess). I did not get cables either so I think I will use alarm wire or something like that instead. On the last arch, is...

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

Kane, That is a nice detailed description you gave me, thanks! I tried to draw in the attached sketch what you have described. Is it correct? (I used the colors that are shown on the picture for the RGBs I am getting, that is the reason it does not match yours...

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

Kane, Option 2 had my preference too as it will be easier to put together. Not exactly sure about the distance but 6 ft should not be too far off...and I got the message and will keep the distance as short as possible! It is important to eliminate all source of confusion and I appreciate the...

are they 2 ways to supply power to RGB?

Thanks for the clarifications, it helps a lot. DanJ, isn't the RGB101 manual awesome? there is a lot of good info here! Good luck with your first show. I actually did my first one last year with 32 channels. I am going 64 this year and recently decided to fool around with RGBs but that, I am...

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

Is the attached drawing a correct representation how the arches should be connected together if the controller does not have 3 dmx output? Still a little confused about the power injection and how to do it. As far as software, I use Vixen 2.1. and Xlights. I started to look at Vixen+ which as...

are they 2 ways to supply power to RGB?

Thank you for confirming that both options work. Is there a tutorial on power injection somewhere? I think I saw something on holidaycoro...I'll have to go back and check it out. Thanks again

how to split data (and power?) to RGB arches

Those are great answers, Thanks! I want each arch to be independent of each others so the splitter option is definitely out. I guess one option could also be to get 3 small controllers, one for each arch. just need to find the right controller now!
