    Sydney/NSW 2018 NSW Mini at Picton - May 26-27

I won't be able to get there, but it would be good if (a) someone were to video the talks and make them available, and (b) if someone could do a talk on the mechanics (for want of a better word) of implementing the display - i.e the bits that AREN'T electrical. The sorts of things that come to...

Where can I buy *nice* looking pre-made rope/led christmas signs

Hi All We've decided at the last minute that'd we'd like a reasonable size "Merry Christmas" or similar sign to add to the front of the house. I don't have the time to fabricate something, and all of the pre-made signs I've found seem to be designed by a drunk blind man who wants to make 14...

EL (Electroluminescent) Wire Christmas light displays

Sorry for the late reply Brian. I've only used the 5mm and I wouldn't consider it flexible enough for a flag. The 2mm on the other hand I understand is rather flexible as it's often used in clothing. I'm not sure whether you'd get the same amount of flapping as you would without the EL-wire sewn...

Where to put fuse and what size to use for pixel tree

Hi All I'm setting up a small display and want people's advice on where to put fuses - and what size to use. My display will be made up as follows 250W PC power supply (contains a 6.3A fuse) -> 3 x ~1M power leads at 12V -> UBEC to convert 12V to 5V -> 48 x WS2811 pixels -> 1...

What's the cheapest I can put pixels on an internal tree for?

To thank everyone who gave me input to my little project (and I'm sure everyone is desperately waiting on closure on this forum thread) - an update as to how it played out. Thanks to the help of the kind members of both the AusChristmasLighting and the Robots and Dinosaurs Google Groups...

What's the cheapest I can put pixels on an internal tree for?

Well I've finally bought some pixels - now to see how quickly Ray can deliver them (hopefully quickly as anyone who actually wanted lights up this year would already have theirs!) I've found an alternative to a traditional controller. I was going to use a teensy or fancypixel, but the lead...

What's the cheapest I can put pixels on an internal tree for?

The controller's still >$100, can I work with a cheaper controller? I know $100 isn't much in the scheme of a big display, but for lighting up a single tree it's a big ask from the Finance minister.

What's the cheapest I can put pixels on an internal tree for?

Thanks for the reply ecbailey. What do other people think? Is that the right choice for me? Are there better choices? Are there (I won't say worse) cheaper choices where I'd have to make trade offs against the options this controller gives me but will meet the requirements?

What's the cheapest I can put pixels on an internal tree for?

Thanks for the reply John. I've played with HLS and Nutcracker (for a grand total of about 15 minutes each, just to see what they were like) - I'm not phased with learning the software, the learning curve is a necessary evil. I'd just like to see if there's a hardware combination that'll allow...

What's the cheapest I can put pixels on an internal tree for?

Hi All! My dreams of a huge outdoor display have been dashed by sad financial realities, so I'm looking at starting at pretty much the smallest scale possible with a plan to possibly work my way up at a later point. So with that in mind, I'm looking to replace the dumb pixel strings that grace...

Sydney/NSW Sydney Mini Expo 2013/Vivid festival - 1st/2nd June - Confirm your Interest

I've been dying to put myself down as coming but had to wait until the last minute to see if I was working - unfortunately at the last hour it turns out I can't attend :( Can someone please take lots of happy snaps and post them up for those of us who will be there in spirit?
