I use the 5mm core flute and it is quite flimsy. I strengthen the back of the props where possible (extra core flute or pvc conduit), limit the size of the prop and mount flat against walls. I would think a Mega Tree Star would be fairly susceptible to wind damage.

Your Beagle Bone board appears to be sitting a little low in the photo. It's probably just the angle of the photo but might be worth checking the pin alignment.
Hi RoybiWan,
I would certainly recommend starting with something like a star before jumping in too deep (I didn't start simple though and wasn't smart enough to ask) More than happy to show you how I have gone about things (not that I'm an expert by any means)

From the xLights menu... select TOOLS --> EXPORT CONTROLLER CONNECTIONS. Then select save (or change file name as required), choose the items you wish to list and select OK. Open the spreadsheet and you're good to go.
I chose the 38mm air seeder tubing route ($125/30m roll from Hoseco - pickup from the store) with strips. I like the diffused lighting it gives (sort of like glowing liquid/plasma).
I have bent 20mm PVC for curved props before and found it a real challenge to get even curves on tight bends...

Sorry I'm probably telling you something you are already aware of. There is possibly a more...
