i checked the board for bridges but couldn't see any, but afer looking at these tiny parts for so long today i might have missed something so i'll check again tomorrow. and take some pics to post up too.
hi,
i'ev completed a strobe (fully populated board with 2 wires, pins 2 / 4 jumpered) powered from a 5V switch mode power supply.
the strobe works and pulses as expected BUT the LED itself never goes off completely between cycles, it always stays on at about 1/3 brightness until it has to...

finally got my high-speed back...
great videos phil.
that rgb mega-tree is just something special. everytime i see one in a video it blows me away.
one of those is my target for the 2011 season.
those MySolarLED prices are much better !!!
i actually got an email from Anthony today, he emails me every now and then just to check up on how the lights are performing and i am pretty sure just to remind me they are still around ;D
i've asked him about large price increases but i haven't...
i cant' seem to find any toluene on the shelves. went to my local Bunnings, they had no idea what i was talking about, never heard of it. and one paint store in my area didn't have it either. i'll keep looking.
i think waterproofing the strings yourself is probably the only way to ensure they last a bit longer. as sources for cheaper lights are found there is going to be some drawbacks with them due to the price we are willing or want to pay - one of those drawbacks will be the IP rating and UV rating...
hi phil,
can you post up a picture of the top mast head with the lights attached? i'd like to see how you took care of securing the RGB strings.
thanks, scott
sales3@ is Anthony...sorry if i got that wrong in my other thread. i emailed him last week so he is still there.
that doesn't sound quite right does it? maybe the curtains have more wire in them. question Kaxled about the prices and why the big increase in per string cost and postage.
also...
gee, that's a pretty big price increase - that's about 10%+ !! i wonder if the fact that some are icicle lights has anything to do with it? also, didn't China just have some mandatory wage increases or something? maybe that kicked up the price a bit. i do remember that they were cheaper the more...
been waiting to see your show - wish i could load the videos though, kids have used my download quota for the month by watching youtube videos !! will have to wait until Friday when it gets reset.
how many strings and nodes did you end up putting on your RGB tree?
thanks, scott
great advice !!
i saw the warnings in the MSDS, it's pretty nasty stuff.
mix outside, wear gloves, wear face / eye protection - that's what i'll be doing for mixing and coating of lights.
be safe and save yourself some potential grief
wow, i got a response from Selleys !! wasn't really expecting one so quick.
here's what they said:
Hi Scott
Thank you for your enquiry.
You would need to thin this product down down using Toluene (most paint stores stock it, Diggers sells this) and you would need to put it into a jar and...
i'm interested in this as well.
i've emailed Selleys to see if they can provide an answer about thinning the stuff out. if i hear back from them i'll let you know.
i might also just get some and try some different thinning agents and see what happens.
thanks, fj
