    DC to DC conversion

OK, this might be a curly one, or I've just done something stupid. l ran a 36v power cable out to a 36v to 12v DC converter with a 10 amp capacity. On the output side I connected three 100 pixel strings that are rated at 0.3 W per pixel, or 30W for the whole string, so I hope I'm well within...

    Mixing 2801 and 2811 Pixels

G'Day All, I have a J1Sys P12R controller and all is working fine thus for this year (touch LED)... I have not tried this, but it seems that I could mix 2801 and 2811 strings running of the P12R since that particular controller allows user specification of the chip type? Regards, Gary

    High pixel/channel count issues & questions/help needed

If you are talking about just scheduling and running the sequences, then all you need is a raspberry pi and fpp software (free). A lot less than an i7 based computer of any make and it frees you from the cumbersome bloat of a windoze machine:-) I used an r-pi to run my lights this year. Sure...

    High pixel/channel count issues & questions/help needed

Don't daisy chain ordinary switches. Use a cheap 16-port switch for a 'flat-switched' network. This is more efficient and cheaper in the long run. Commonly available Ethernet switches cannot be cascaded (and work properly).

    A little help please.

OK, on your P12R lower board, there is a connector referred to as K1 in the manual. The ground point on this connector is the signal (data) ground. You must have a wire connecting this point to V- on each power supply, in effect tying them all to the same grounding point on that board. A thin...

    Where to power inject

I agree. I'm currently running a 180 degree ten strand tree, with folded strings of 100 pixels and powering each of the five strings of 100 with no issues (12 V). That is, five 100 pixel strings folded in halves to make 10 50 pixel strings.

    A little help please.

This sounds for all the world like a non-continuous data ground. Make sure all the power supplies V- points are connected to a common point (each other in series via V-). Do NOT connect this ground to power supply GND.

About to give up on LSP Pro...

Yes, Charl, I can afford to wait as well since I bought two years upgrades during a "special" and hope that LSP improves. As to "investment" I would like to see that improvement without throwing good money after bad, so I will wait and see if I've made a bad investment here :)

Just one thought of counter-hypothesis here too. If LSP can produce a bullet proof, bug free program at the price then clearly the world would beat a path to their door.

LSP is pretty cheap. What you relate about AutoCAD I can well believe. We had better not spam too much on the short comings of Windows software and the general instabilities it presents. I don't see either case (relatively cheap or relatively expensive) as an excuse for software that wastes...

About to give up on LSP Pro...

All very useful suggestions from the community and I will diligently try every one of them and few more besides. I return (whinge whinge) to my point about this being "paid for" software and the "bugginess" does not seem to be ironed out at all. The writer of the software seems to have it in...

About to give up on LSP Pro...

Thanks. I'll have a good look at that if I can squeeze it in. If nothing else it pays to know what's out there.

About to give up on LSP Pro...

Not a silly suggestion but even simple things like that have been checked. I've been caught before by little details like that one. I had a "glimmer" of hope once the hardware test started working but sequencing still a no go. I notice a lot of small "buggy" behaviours being reported here...

About to give up on LSP Pro...

I just ran the output tester in LSP on the two controllers I have configured (both 100 pixel strings). The banks light up and change colour correctly when "told" to from the software. They even "chase" in the limited fashion that the hardware tester allows. Communication from software to...

About to give up on LSP Pro...

On this new machine, there has only been Ver 2.8, so no hope in that direction. I'm running Xlights now from this same machine, but the problem pre-dates the installation of xLights. I've also completely uninstalled .NEt twice and the LSP software, but still no soap. Aaaaaaaarrrrggghghhgh!
