What are people doing to document their show to make setting up easier in subsequent years? Do you do it all from memory, or have you written something down?
Do you label you cables? If so, what sort of convention do you use to make it easy to find which cable goes where?
At the start of the...
So, not answering your question, but incase you haven't considered it, ESP32 (e.g. Quinled Digi Uno) with WLED or ESPixelStick is my preferred tester of choice, and has the added bonus of testing props in xLights in addition to running standalone.
This video covers (most of) the new things added in 2023.
The roof lines were converted from strip to aluminium channel, but forgot about that during recording :)
With using a VM as the main show player, beware of any issues with respect to audio if you intend play music. I originally started down that path and ended up with a dedicated machine in my main cabinet.
Just a comment on tensioning the MT seeds - I ended up with the solution below.
The original concept started as I wanted the width at the base to be a bit wider than the trampoline base I had available, so decided to print some extender arms.
It turned out this allowed me to get pretty good...
FWIW, I've added a bit over 10k 5v 4 wire seeds with redundancy from knowshine this year.
One was marked faulty on the roll, seemed to work ok, but I discarded it anyway. Found another unmarked that was faulty straight off the reel.
Of the 10k that made it to the show, I've had two play up...
I was going to suggest if you're looking to save cost / power injection, consider 30l/m. For reliability on your food truck I wouldn't skimp on the IP rating though. Also I was impressed with the quality / water resistance of their terminations, so if you're looking to save fuss, I'd highly...
Last year I for my arches I purchased "10mm width Digital LED flexible strips, SMD 5050 BGR LED, 60 pcs LEDs/m , 60pcs GS8208/m, Signal break-point continuous transmission, DC12V, 7.2W/m, 2meter /120LEDs /roll, IP67 waterproof (silicone tube and full glue injection), white PCB, 15CM waterproof...
The 24V seed pixels I've played with have the power for each six LEDs in series, but the data still goes through each individual pixel, so whilst you must cut them after every 6th LED, you still get individual LED control. Not sure if your strip is configured the same way.
In your initial post...
See attached picture.
There is a 24V -> 5V DC/DC and smart receiver at (1), (2), (3). At each, I use two of the four ports to go in each direction heading away from the smart receiver. Power is connected at the start and end of each arrow.
Longest single run is across the front of the garage...
The magnets I purchased have a countersunk hole in them. I 3D printed a bracket and used a self tapper into the conduit. There was a magnet every 80cm or so. See attached.
Note that there are many great display walkthrough videos around that give great ideas on how to get things done.
Correct on the cabling. Note that is RS485, not Ethernet. I have a single Falcon F48v4 in the garage (same as this, but with a second Ethernet port -...
