I'm brand new to pixel lighting. I've been experimenting with a couple of strings of 5V pixels and a PiCap controller riding on a Raspi 2.
My first foray in to pixels was to use Python scripts to control my lights from the GPIO of my Pi Zero. I have had some success as long as I don't alter the sample scripts available on GitHub. I've pretty much given up on Python in favor of the PiCap controller and Xlights to write sequences.
A lot to learn.

Using Falcon Player (FPP) is definitely the way to go for using the Pi. It offers so many features and the majority are dead easy to use especially for those of us who believe that python is something you need a shovel to dispose of.
