As some of you will know, my Pixlite LR16 died on me a week or so ago. I eventually found a price from Advatek for a replacement at a mere $1175.
With much trepidation, I opted to buy a couple of Baldrics. Thanks AAH for the quick shipping. I've finished putting one in a box today, and setting it up. I doubt I'll ever run these things to capacity. I have a slightly decentralised setup, with a bit here, and a bit there. I've just put the Baldric outside, running one signal cable (actually 4 joined together) delivering power and data 15m to a 99 pixel element. To my delight, the darn thing appears to be working a treat!
Now, I'll have to confess, I'm using Vixen, and it was a pretty seamless exercise to get up and running.
The only issue was that after setting Baldric up (yes, that is his name. The other shall be Edmund), it had to be turned off, and restarted before Vixen could talk to him.
To my horror, I found I've essentially run out of Ray Wu pigtails, and have had to go scrounging through scraps to find enough. I can of course salvage a few off the Pixlite, and its now worthless satellite boards, but they are all short ones.
I've got the USB to RJ45 dongle running the DMX stuff this year. It is a solution, but not an ideal one.
I can see a DMX board in the New Year, maybe a couple more Baldrics for good luck, and some darn pigtails!
It looks like a Merrier Christmas!
