Hi all,

Once again, Woolworths have offered to be our hosts for the Sydney 2025 mini at their head office in Bella Vista.We are forever grateful for their generosity.

I anticipate starting the planning sessions for the mini some time in the new year; the number one thing we need is presenters.

Please start to have a think about various topics you could present - you don't have to be an expert; just share what you have learnt.
The session could be
  • a main room plenary session
  • a smaller more niche breakout session
  • or perhaps you want to provoke some thought amongst the attendees by facilitating an open-floor discussion.
Most are usually half an hour or one hour in length.
If you're not a strong public speaker, that's perfectly fine too - personally, I certainly hate doing it too - but the nature of the mini is that everyone chips in and this will help boost your confidence in that area.

Assume we have a clean slate - no presenters locked in - all avenues can be presented on. We have a day and a half to fill.

Some ideas of topics that have been previously considered or presented on (in no particular order):
  • xLights basics / advanced / niche topics (3D/Submodels/States/Sequencing)
  • FPP / xSchedule
  • Controllers (There are some new ones on the market- do you have one?)
  • Panels (FPP & Colorlight)
  • Electronics (Soldering / Power Distribution / Fundamentals)
  • Networking (Basics / WiFi / etc)
  • Troubleshooting
  • Interactivity
  • Sound, Push to Listen & Broadcast
  • Halloween
  • Remote Falcon & Other Cloud Services
  • AI
  • 3D Printing
  • Home Automation Integration
  • Moving Heads
As always, a call to anyone who is doing their first display in 2024 - to present the regular "My First Year" presentation - your accomplishments, learnings, future plans etc

Remember that the mini is community driven - both for you - what do you want to get from it - and by you - what can you offer to others?
 
Flights and accommodation booked, I'll see you there! I don't consider myself an expert in any particular aspect of the hobby with possible exception to audio editing. However last 2 years I did some semi-impromptu presentations on AI tools to use for your display such as audio & lyrics generation. Happy to do so again and have an open discussion on any other tools that may be fun or helpful for our blinky needs.

2025 has arrived and it's time to start planning for the Mini in May/June.

As mentioned above; we are starting fresh with planning this year - everything is on the table.
I am going to need some volunteers to assist with planning and running the mini - my time is a little stretched at the moment, and definitely cannot pull it off myself, so please stick your hand up and we can get it going.

Tasks involve (but not limited to)

  • Dinner Saturday @ 7:00
  • Door Prizes
  • Emcee
  • AV
  • Drinks
  • Name Tags
  • ACL/Facebook Posts
We will kick off with a planning session on Friday 28th February, at 8pm, in the xLights Zoom Room. A specific breakout room will be created so we can sit aside from the general "riff raff".

Please have a think about how you can help, join in on the Zoom session, and we can allocate some tasks and work out how we are going to run it :)

I will be flying back into Sydney Friday evening, & will join the meeting as soon as I am able. Looking forward to my second Mini, this time with a bit of experience after throwing together a little musical light show. Some of the training I will be able to go "ahhh, that makes sense" instead of it flying over my head!
