Several members in the community are keen to make the Sydney mini happen, and we already have the venue booked. Please take a few moments to complete this survey to help us gauge interest as we need to finalise plans in the next few days. Most importantly, please reach out if you're willing to contribute in any way, we're looking to hold a planning Zoom session one evening sometime before next Wednesday. You can present your own topic, or if unsure, we can help with suggestions. Casual sessions welcome - no fancy presentation required.
Sydney Mini 2026- Survey

Firstly looking for member who may like to get involved with a small number of members in the running of the event, Like setting up, catering, seeking out advertisers, suppliers, Door prizes etc,
And members who may like to present a topic at the Event!
If you are able to present remotely, I am sure that we could accommodate.

We could look at doing remote presentations with the Melbourne Mega Mini if we all land on the same weekend.
We have a 300 seat theatre in Melbourne we could link them both up with a live stream from one to the other.
Just a thought

Assuming that the mini isn't on the same weekend as the Melbourne mini I'll likely make the trip north. I hate doing presentations but happy to do a Q+A type session or 2 on things. Also happy to soak up any info on Xlights stuff if Keith happens to be there spreading wisdom. I'll probably throw in some door prizes and do a free shipping to the mini as well.

Hi Bernie, I’ve filled out the survey and selected that I’m happy to help with the mini, but since I’m brand new to light shows and this will be my first mini, I think starting with a smaller role would be best for me.

Thanks Bernie, as discussed, I’ll try and support where possible.

Time is precious and I would like to see attendees put in requests for what they need assistance with, or what topics they want covered. Many have been doing a show for years, so they come and talk all through the presentations (nothing wrong with this, and I’ve been guilty of it myself, as socialising is a huge part of minis, but it’s distracting for the presenter and new attendees), so sitting in a room for 1 or 2 days watching presentations does get monotonous.

I’m happy to do 1:1 or small group discussions and try and tackle specific questions or things people struggle with.

Personally, sequencing as an example is something you can’t learn in an hour and if you’ve already started using xlights, I’m sure you would be better served if you could come prepared with a challenge and it gets worked through on the day - this is obviously boring for others who have more experience or buy sequences, hence the suggestion to have targeted workshops.

The topics covered are really determined by the audience. If people are coming to their first mini or haven’t yet started with animated lighting, they would be better served with a very different program to people in their 3rd, 4th, 15th year.

Build days or intensive xlights are more valuable, but these are probably less valuable to the new people.

Just my opinion.

Like we have done in past years. If there is the numbers we would cater for 2 groups those that have being doing computerised lights for over 5 years and the rest which would include newbies.
The survey is intended to see if the Mini is viable to go ahead and members who would be contributing. From that we will have a zoom meetup with those wishing to help and then plan a program.
A build session you mentioned would be good in conjunction with a newbie buddying up with a more experienced member.
