I've been lurking and now it's time for intros

Yup Perth, old and crusty guy in Butler, did a 2 x esp8266 with ws2811 strings on the full width of the gutter and 1 x mini xmas tree of 6x25 ws2811 verticals all using WLED (around 500 pixels) also had flashing aldi rope lights for drive way and reject shop Santa and sleigh last year (2022) which I started the beginning of December and I kicked myself because I got the taste of sweet sweet blinky xmas lights and I just ran out of time.

I mean I've wanted to do xmas lights for 10s of years but stuff happens in life and then you have to rent for years and the opportunity gets lost.
Well now I have a home I can light up!

This year, oh boy, I'm stepping it up, litterally 10 fold (10x) calc'd approx 5000 pixels will be on display. From a 2.5m 16x50 mini Mega tree, window outlines, driveway edging, same mini tree as last year +1, snow flakes, sticks, arches, mini 100 pixel trees x3, 60x40 pixel matrix, roof outline, a 64x32 tune in sign, oh and wife wanted 2x singing xmas trees and lastly my stock gutter pixels

I've been massing pixels and electronics for last 2 months and planning and building out my props. I'm now bust, in debt, the bank is knocking and nowhere to hide haha /jk

I'm familiar with individually addressable RGB led lights as I've been playing with them for years.

But now it's time to learn xLights, well I have been doing that and getting quite comfortable with its quirky outdated interface, but it works and I can see the incredible hard work they put into the software as I'm also a software developer by trade.

But anyways, this HoHoHo is fun!
I won't be posting much as i have heaps to do, so i guess i'll stay a lurking elf for ages to come.

Last thing, I'm building as much as I can, like all the snowflakes and singing trees so if anyone knows where to get large sheets of 10mm coro fairly cheap ( other than bunnings ) that I can pickup please reply or ping me on here
TYSM! 😊

You poor poor man!! :) Welcome! Glad to have you here, as always, peruse the forums, loads of details on there, as well as stop by the chat room and say Hi, folks in all the time from all over who are willing to help or have a yarn to.

We have a few members in Perth, I am sure they will poke their heads out shortly and introduce themselves.

Good luck and looking forward to seeing what you produce for the year!

Welcome :)

Glad to have another from Perth, especially NOR. We briefly chatted over email recently (I run Blinky Sequeunces).

Looking forward to checking out your display this year as we are just up the road in Alkimos Beach.

Welcome,

I'm also in Perth (Woodvale) so local and my first year as well. Slowly getting everything together now :)

This hobby is a total time sync, but very fun and rewarding from what i have done so far.

Thank you all
i totally relate to the timesink conundrum - as ive said i'm buidling EVERYTHING myself
I've just finished building 2 x PCB's ( my own design ) i'll be using for (2of4) controllers using the WT32-ETH01 mounted (im a little chuffed) cause they are xmas green and beefy little fkrs
Will use WLED firmware on them giving me 8 channels (hopefully running up to 800 pixels each channel to get me a hopefully stable 40fps for some of the sequences)
I've still got Coro to buy and CNC for snowflakes and arches and all sorts of conduit for windows
My 60x40 garage door pixel matrix is close to built - its 3m x 2m using the ws2812b seed pixels, its hangining in my garage - have to sort out wiring for power injection now.
i'll post pics of anything if anyone is interested. ;)
