Baldrick 8 Port Pixel Controller in xlights unable to program

Hi I am new to xlights and have watched many how to videos, but I must missing something, I have purchased the
Ready to run- Baldrick 8 Port Pixel Controller Power Supply:5V 200W Pixel Pigtails:Xconnect.
I have power to the baldrick controller, but unable to configure in xights
I have attached to my computer via the data cord, opened up xlight but i can not get any lights to turn on or sync the power board, please help I feel I must be missing something. Do I need to purchase another items to make the lights turn on.

Is the Baldrick Controller plugged into your internet router?

How it's coming across is that you've directly plugged the controller into your computer. If so, that is wrong. It needs to be plugged into your internet router.

Possibly would need a router with DHCP to assign an ip address to the PC and the Baldrick board - a switch does not assign IP addresses

I need to make this clearer that the board can't be plugged into a computer (unless it has a DCHP server)..

@Lanas kids lights if you can plug it into the router that comes with your internet, it should work then. if not let us know and we can work it out
