Recently got my DMX2-24 delivered and the plan is to sync my 2 wire Bunnings lights together and group them into groups.

Am I correct in xLights that I need to select string light, 1 channel and set a colour for it?

Struggling to get my head about getting them setup correctly in xLights.

Thanks in advance

There are multiple ways to do it -
  • What you suggest is that's definitely one way to do it. And then draw two strings for each real string (for the A and B colours on each). I use this for 8 channels (4 strings) of my layout. I just use 'Black' as the colour, and the type as Single Colour Intensity so ANY intensity will cause the string to light up. If you set it to say "Red" then only "red" will illuminate the string. It depends on how you want it to react to the sequence.
    • The two vertical pairs - red arrows - are a single string wrapped around palm trees.
    • The Green arrow is a string that is weaved on the fence (note the big squares, they are unrelated, and are controllable nodes),
    • The blue arrow is a motif with the word PEACE in one colour and two doves surrounding it in another colour
  • You could also do it as two colour SuperString - basically follows the above, except one per physical string - You then set two colours on it - say red and yellow, and each half of the string interact together with the sequence
  • Thirdly - and I use this on my 8x strings which are individually balled up in portions of the hedge - I have a single line, set to 16 strings (one per channel) and 1 light per string. This is set to single colour intensity as well.
    • This is the 16 dots in yellow, designated by the orange arrow below.
    • This one allows me to put a sweep effect across the prop, and get the bundles lighting up in turn across the hedge.
On my controller visualiser, the strands set up individually get dragged on by themselves as channels, and the hedge lights are a single prop consuming 16 channels

This is a screengrab from one of last years' videos that shows the bundles in the hedges, two of the wrapped palms, and the Peace/Doves sign on the fence.

Thanks for that. Will try those suggestions tonight see what I can make work. First year doing anything other than plugging in and sending it.
