My Apologies for the late post on this.. The E1.31 standard has been worked on, and the revision is currnetly open for public review. Now is your opportunity to comment on it if you want to. This revision adds ipv6 to the standard.. This ones scope is quite limited, its mostly about ipv6..

The next peic eof work "NG" will be much bigger, and look to add a lot more features.

Anyway link to the docs and review forms below.

"E1.31 provides a very simple protocol that offers functionality comparable to proprietary DMX512 over Ethernet protocols while being compatible with the E1.17 suite of protocols. The standard is being revised, limited to the addition of IPv6 compatibility and the correction of errors. Input on additional features is not being sought at this time.[/size]To aid reviewers in discerning which sections include changes, a copy of the draft in strike-through/underline format is also included in the public review package. I still think going beyond 512 channels for E1.31 is the way to go as it currently does not use all of a standard Ethernet frame 1.5k Even cheap switches support 8K frames, however switches have a limit on the number of Multicast groups they can manage.
