e1.31 to DMX dj lights with dmx plug

I have a set of RGB DMX controlled disco lights similar to this

I'm looking at incorporating into my show. The connection on the back is a round DMX connection. Looks the standard connection for what most Dj's use for lights.


I'm running e1.31 thru a network switch into p12r controllers and LOR dc controllers. I'm pretty sure I need an ecg-d2 or ecg-dr4 to convert it to DMX but this has cat5 output. Do I need something else to convert it to the standard dmx plug. I have had a look thru the 101 manual and the e1.31 manual, but from the diagrams it looks like cat 5 going into the back of the lights. Is it as simple as buying a cat5 to DMX plug.


What am I missing

You can use ecg-d4, ecg-d2 or a usb to dmx dongle. All 3 of these options give you the RS485 signal out via RJ45 style plugs and then you either need an off the shelf adaptor (Ray Wu has them) or else you can make 1 up. There's into in the wiki on what is involved on wiring them up.
