I usually get to replace a couple pixels a year one strings actually in the yard and it is always a juggle to hold the wire, the iron and the solder, especially in a breeze.
So into tinkercad and out the other side some little clips

Currently there are two clip on sizes, on for 6mm rod and one for 7.5mm rod.

The wire holder part of the clip is optimised for the 20AWG pixel wires, easy enough to do a variation suited to 18awg, i just don't have any handy.

The idea is to keep the wires aligned and steady whilst you join them.

I need to split the two variants into separate STL files so will add them in a later post.

Cheers

I think they lend themselves to a great bench top tool as well. Mount the rod with the clips, add your wires and solder away. You can slide the clips along the rod to a desired length. The addition of a grub screw or similar could assist in set lengths, etc. They've given me another idea too. I've got so much to look at, plan, make when I finally get out of this hospital bed.
I'd definitely be interested in purchasing some of these in the future.

Simple yet brilliant. Wish I had those last year when I was trying to solder wires halfway up the house.
