Hi everyone,

I’m thrilled to join this awesome community and dive into the world of Australian lighting! I’m brand new to X Lights and pixel lighting, so I’m here to learn, share, and get inspired by all you experts out there.

My Current Setup:

Right now, I’m rocking a Twinkly light setup for my holiday displays. It’s been a fun starting point, with those smart LEDs creating some cool effects, but I’m ready to take things to the next level.

My Wishes:

I’m super keen to start incorporating pixel lights and converting my props over to pixel-based setups. I want to create more dynamic, customisable displays that sync perfectly with music and animations. I’m dreaming of building some eye-catching props and maybe even a mega tree one day!

I’m still wrapping my head around X Lights and pixel controllers, so any tips, tutorials, or advice for a beginner would be massively appreciated. Looking forward to learning from you all and sharing my progress as I go!

Cheers,

Thanks!
I’m watching as many tutorials as I can before placing my orders, as I don’t want to buy the wrong thing. I already have lots of Twinkly products but not much info on using them in props or with xLights, so I think I’ll switch to pixel lights instead.

Welcome, I’m on my second year and still learning heaps. Lots of help on here and YouTube. I also found Hansons electronic for controllers ect, Christmas Props Australia for the props and lite it up for the lights to be very helpful with there products and going in the right direction.

Welcome to the hobby :)
It will be worthwhile reaching out to those in Brisbane to have a chat and perhaps see a controller box etc and how it all connects.
Before buying anything - watch videos of some other people's shows to get a feel for what people have and make a list of things you like vs dislike. (for example some people like arches with strip inside pex tube, others like arches with bullet pixels ... some just dont like arches ) :p
here is last year's xlights around the world video

Download xlights and watch a video on setting up your layout , (the layout tab in xlights) . as you don't need to worry about controllers yet. If you can setup your house on a layout, you can see and plan on your house layout and with that , you will then know how many pixels you need to order and can from there see how many connections on a controller box you will need and go from there.

Thank you for sharing that’s very helpful information love to know if anyone manages to use twinkly lights in their display on props as it's looking like there is wiring diagrams to follow and from my research twinkly layout in the product is a zigzag setup not a 1,2,3 bulb layout. So following a diagram can be a challenge with twinkly.
