My brother gave me his old LOR1602w Model 3 and I'm slowly gathering the materials to put on my first Christmas lights to music show.

Now I'm trying to determine if this controller will turn on 12v ws2811 light strands. I realize it won't change the colors, but I would just like to buy these strands now instead of buying plain white ones and wanting RGB ones later

No, it won't turn on 12V WS2811 strands... it's for A/C stuff like strings of mini lights, C7/C9, molds, A/C floods, A/C wireframe props, lights inside blow ups, etc.

WS2811 strands aren't easy to "turn on". You apply 12V to it, that's easy enough, but you have to send a data signal down the line telling them what color to be or they won't light.

By the time you go to the trouble of getting the LoR to do anything with the WS2811s, you may as well have just gotten a different controller.
