Hi everyone on ACL,

I'm a 21 year old student from Adelaide, South Australia. I have been a member of ACL for 2 year now but have never really looked into the information here. I have been running 32 LOR channels for 2 years and 16 channels for 2 years before that but want to get a bit more advanced and put some money into the RGB pixel lighting options (aiming for next year).

At the moment I have all common lights from the stores like Bunnings, Big W Kmart etc. and some of the larger displays from internet sites. I am not really familiar with all the jargon and details for electronics, I feel I have mostly been lucky with getting my display to where it is at the moment! But I have been doing some reading on the Pixel Lighting. From my research so far (of the 101 manual and various videos, forums etc.) I understand I can keep these lights (which I would want to do in the most part especially after forking out $100+ for certain sets!) while adding the pixel control to the animations. That is probably my main concern at this stage, I am sure as my research progresses, and my interaction with the forums increases, many new questions will arise (and be answered hopefully!).

You can find some videos of my previous displays on YouTube, this one was a favourite from last year:

Hopefully everyone is progressing well with this years displays! I look forward to interacting with you all.

Welcome to ACL.(It's probably a late welcome as you've been a member for 2 years before making a post)
Some great resources you've been going through. You ought to try to get to the Adelaide mini next year as the talk this year was that it was going to get bigger and better for 2014.

Gday Macca, You've come to the right place for info. All the people here are unbelievably helpful. It looks like you are already well on your way. That sequence looks great. You should pick up the pixel thing quite easily. This is my first year at sequenced lights. Before this year we just had 3 sets of Big W strings. I have incorporated them into a small show using one of AAH's 2811DC15 boards. With a show like yours, we may be asking you a bunch of questions. :D

As AAH mentioned each year most states have what we call a mini which is a get together to share knowledge and ideas, I do reccommend you attending 2014 Adelaide mini as it will be well worth your time.

Anyway lots of great info and guys to help here

Welcome to ACL! LOR is a very good "plug and play" system. That is what I started with 3 years ago, and you are right you can keep all of your controllers and lights and still move into pixels. There are many outside tools that you can use to enhance LOR's capabilities to handle pixels such as xlights/nutcracker and Itsmebobo utilities. All of these will work with LOR S3 software. Look into them and have fun on the way. Stop by chat and say hi. You will find that most people there can answer any questions you may have. There is no such thing as a "dumb question" otherwise most of us would have never gotten off the ground with this pixel stuff.
John
