Hi,
On one hand I'm starting small, but with an extra complication. I'm planning to animate lights on a couple bicycles for a holiday themed ride (next year). I'm planning to stick to "dumb" RGB fairy lights, both for simplicity and because the tiny lights wrap better around the bikes than pixel strands or strips. However, to put lights on the wheels and a second bike requires that there be several strands with separate batteries and small wireless controllers.

My current plan is to design the display with xLights, run it on a raspberry pi with Falcon player, and use Esp8266 was wifi controllers. I'm pretty comfortable with the battery power, but setting up the ESPs may be a challenge. I've used one before with the Arduino IDE for a different project, and I've found a tutorial that may help. Still any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
