Help Again please

Hi i am struggling to set up a system using LOR, i was going to use LOR 16 channel starter controller for my lights on the trees and 2 x [SIZE=small]CMB24D controllers for my led strip lights.[/SIZE]

[/size][SIZE=small]But my lights are led low voltage lights with a power adaptor, i have been told these might catch fire!![/SIZE]

[font=arial, helvetica][/SIZE]So my setup would be computer-speakers-usb via USB485 adaptor then RJ 45 to CTB-32LD then RJ45's to my 2 x CMB24D cards giving 64 channels.[SIZE=small][/font]

The CTB-32LD is not a low voltage controller. There is a list of controllers here http://auschristmaslighting.com/wiki/Controllers

Whatever controller you choose, it is a good idea to have something that's E1.31 or DMX compatible because these are widely used signals that have a range of controller options. I use a setup that includes both E1.31 and DMX.

If any of your lights have an 8 function controller AND only 2 wires going to the lights then this is the only controller that can run them. http://www.hansonelectronics.com.au/product/dmx2-18/

Lights with more than 2 wires or without an 8 function controller would be fine with most DC controllers but not the one I linked to above.

The setup you propose would work but only for high voltage lights. I also don't recommend sending signals to controllers via USB because doing so can cause your setup to be laggy or prone to stuttering. It might be ok for small channel counts.

I just don't think Light-O-Rama hardware is a great option for Australian displays. It's intended for mains voltage lights and it's overpriced on its own, let alone adding in postage all the way from the US when you can get what you need here. In Australia we don't have the luxury of a plug-and-play option due to our low voltage store bought lights and the hacking they require. That said, the low voltage route is cheaper and you can still use RGB lights because they are always the voltage they're advertised as.

You can still use the LOR controller with the power packs BUT you cant use dimming or very fast off and on effects as this is what can cause the power packs to go bang as they were never designed for this
