Hi everyone

I stumbled across this amazing site while searching how to get started with Christmas lights sequenced to music. I’m a Christmas nut. Fair to say hubby isn’t....but he does love technology and a challenge so I’m seeing an opportunity here .

Looking forward to getting to know you all more. Anyone here from Canberra? I saw a great display last year in Oxley that got hubby excited

Welcome to ACL.
If you have a look at the display location link at the top you can zoom in on Canberra. The map is currently showing 6 displays around Canberra but not everyone has their location pinned.

Welcome to ACL. If you have not already, download a copy of ACL's 101 Manual. It will answer quite a number of question you may have and will help get you started in this hobby. ACL's Wiki, Media, Display Videos, and Forums are all searchable and can as well answer questions or give ideas for your display. The Chat Room is also somewhere that questions can be asked and answered.

If your other half likes technology, there's certainly that aspect to animated Christmas lighting. He may take a greater interest than you suspect. Cheers.

Hey there, Im down in Conder, feel free to touch base some time if you would like and I can help you get started.

Thanks Ben,

I will do that! Would be keen to get started for Christmas now so we have lots of time to learn.

Welcome to ACL! Time is slipping away towards December but you can still get some lights happening in that time.
xLights developer and ACL member Keith did a great video around how to put together a simple display when time is limited, or at the very least things to consider to get a display going.

+1 to what djgra79 sent you, but start watching it now and research.

Don't try to make this first year to have the world's best lights display, start on a small display, perhaps add some of the old bunnings/big w lights in to the mix to help support your display

Good luck, and be sure to ask for help if you like.

Hi Moonzoom74

I am also in Canberra.

It's now August so I'd suggest trying to get something small up and running ASAP. The first year of computer-controlled lights has the steepest learning curve but once it is up and running, you have something to build on.

What sort of display items do you want to start with? I'm happy to discuss options; you're welcome to contact me. I use both traditional light strings and pixels (individual control) in my display. Both types are computer-controlled.

Hi MoonZoom74,

I am also in Canberra (Oxley), if you need any help or lessons learned just let me know! Happy to point you in the right direction!! :) As you can see there are a few of us scatter across Canberra :)

I am in Canberra. I went to Bunnings and bought a crap load of lights last week - and then I found this site. and now I know I have wasted my money. because the bug has been gotten.

As Benslights said, particulary if you haven't opened them yet, you can take them back for a full refund at Bunnings. :)

Although if this will be your first year at pixel lighting, it may not hurt to have some of your display using those lights, if not for anything more than filling up spaces that you haven't 'pixelised' yet. :)
