I seem to remember in previous versions if you copied a section (ie a chase effect) that runs diagonally, that when you pasted it into another area, it only pasted the marked effects as opposed to the entire square which overwrites other items in that same spot with blanks. I'm sure that's how I did last years effects on the candy canes, instead of drawing in each colour.
