Thanks, this is my first year using pixels, if i'm using a total of 3,320 pixels (a combination of icecels, candy canes and a wreath) in my display would need around 21 of these 40amp power supplies? Have i got my calculations about right?I have them for $49.99 delivered on EBay...

What brightness do you plan to run your show at? What amperage draw are you working on per 100 pixels at 100% brightness? Thanks, this is my first year using pixels, if i'm using a total of 3,320 lights in my display would need around 21 of these 40amp power supplies? You also generally run your power supplies at 85% capacity of their total wattage so 170watts or 34amp per supply just to not over power them... 5-5.5 amp or so amps at 100% per 100 pixels you are looking at 5-6 supplies depending on where they are around your yard... If you are running your show at 30% brightness it is even less draw per 100 pixels so less supplies neededWhat brightness do you plan to run your show at? sorry my numbers were not quite right, this is breakdown of my display, all pixels i'm using are 5v:You also generally run your power supplies at 85% capacity of their total wattage so 170watts or 34amp per supply just to not over power them... 5-5.5 amp or so amps at 100% per 100 pixels you are looking at 5-6 supplies depending on where they are around your yard... 2920 pixels is around 160amps give or take... At 100% brightness I always engineer for 100% brightness in my show... So running the supplies at 85% is 34amp per supply draw 160/34=4.7 power supplies if running your show at less brightness say 30% is 30%*160/100=48amp...so you can see the difference in draw when you drop your brightness... But all lights at 100% 5 supplies would be plenty... Injection may be required though every 50-100 pixels at 100% I'm not a 5V pixel user I use 12V and I believe 5V pixels use a little less draw as not having to step down the voltage from 12V someone correct me please if I'm wrong as 12V pixels get stepped down to 5V with resistors/regulatorssorry my numbers were not quite right, this is breakdown of my display, all pixels i'm using are 5v:
1 x Large wreath - 16 strings of 50 = 800
8 x Candy canes - 16 strings of 50 = 800
18 x Roof Icicles - 18 sets of 60 = 1,080
4 x window Icicles - 4 sets of 60 = 240
Total 2,920
With the Wreath I might only use 400 pixels it too bright with 800, but no doubt i would use the 400 somewhere else.
I guess i would like to have the capacity to run them at 100% at certain points in show.
Thank you! Working out how these lights work is like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. I'll put the order in tonight.2920 pixels is around 160amps give or take... Thanks KakeKatenot even close.
assuming 60mA per pixel at full white full bright, thats 199,200mA or 199A so 5x 40a supplies would just cover you there.
But you want a bit of extra head room, but also you probably wont run full brightness either.
