Mean Well RSP or LRS 320-5 are either OK or is one better

Hi,

I just got in my PSU and realised I bought a RSP-320-5 instead of the LRS-350-5 (not sure how that happened). The difference being LRS is the switchmode power supply. Apart from spending what looks like double the price for this power supply is there any reason I can not use it for the E682 and pixel PSU? Is having a switchmode supply essential or can I get away with this PSU?

Both are fine. From memory the main difference is the LRS doesn't have power factor correction.

RSP are still switchmode.

As Daryl mentioned, the RSP-320-xx has PFC (Power Factor Correction). The LRS-350-xx supplies do not.

The RSP supply also supports an input of 85 VAC to 264 VAC whereas the LRS-350-xx has a physical switch to select the normally seen 120 VAC or 240 VAC. There is better regulation on the RSP as well as some other subtle differences in specifications. The LRS-350-xx is essentially designed for a rather typical industrial automation/control environment where the RSP series includes that and adds test/measurement equipment. Essentially, the RSP is a higher quality tighter specifications designed power supply.

To answer your question, the RSP-320-5 will power your pixels just as well as a LRS-350-5. You purchased a better quality supply.

Thanks everyone, certainly good to know I didnt stuff up and purchase something that is not useful, from what I see I just spent more money (nearly double) on the RSP which I will again put down to a rookie error. I will get something right someday....
